Design for resilience of human & more-than-human communities
THE BRIEF
Auckland CBD workers are increasingly affected by stress and isolation due to urban density and hybrid work models. This project responds by proposing a conceptual green space that supports mental well-being, community connection, and environmental resilience. Developed using Resilio Studio’s design process, it combines research on public spaces and human-environment interaction with tools like personas, mind maps, and 3D modelling. The result is a thoughtful, user-centred design aimed at promoting balance and well-being in the urban landscape.
Paraiso represents a pioneering initiative to re-implement green spaces into Auckland's Central Business District (CBD), enhancing resilience for both human and more-than-human communities. Strategically located at Takutai Square, Paraiso serves as a natural buffer against the artificial environment that urban dwellers encounter daily. This project directly responds to the growing mental health challenges faced by Auckland CBD workers and locals, who are increasingly grappling with urban stressors and the shift to hybrid work models. These pressures have led to heightened burnout rates and diminished well-being.
